The Velvet Hammer Burlesque photographic exhibition will feature

The House of World Cultures is a leading centre for the contemporary
arts and a venue for projects breaking through artistic boundaries.
The House of World Cultures has set itself the task of presenting
cultures from outside Europe through their fine arts, theatre,
music, literature, film and the media and engaging them in a public
discourse with European cultures. The House of World Cultures’
programme focuses on the contemporary arts and current developments
in the cultures of Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as on
the artistic and cultural consequences of globalisation. It gives
priority to projects that explore the possibilities of both intercultural
co-operation and its presentation.
The national and international reputation of the House of World
Cultures is based on its innovative and experimental presentations
of the fine arts, dance, theatre, film, literature and music as
well as its international conferences.

Come and learn the art and rich culture of Burlesque by one of
the worlds most renowned performers in the business, Michelle
Carr.
Michelle Carr, also known on stage as Valentina Violette, was
one of a handful who brought back the lost tradition of burlesque
striptease in 1995. Since then she has become the pioneer of a
dance movement that has become wildly popular since the turn of
this last century. With many modern burlesque troupes just skimming
the surface, The Velvet Hammer Burlesque has become a staple of
quality, high brow entertainment known across the globe.
In 2003, Carr and her Velvet Hammer Burlesque had touched Swiss
soil for the first time and there was an overwhelming positive
response for their performance. After returning several times
to Switzerland, Carr noticed that the interest had grown not just
from the audience but also the fascination from woman wanting
to learn the art of striptease dancing. Carr had returned once
again in 2005, to Switzerland not just to perform but to teach
this rich history and dance culture to a handful of select women
in Zurich and Bern. The most talented graduates from this seminar
will also be some of the members of the Velvet Voyage cast.
This workshop will cover everything you need to know about this
fascinating dancing style. You will receive a historical lesson
of the beginnings of the burlesque movement til today's neo-burlesque
explosion. Plus you'll get on hand tips for costumes, make-up,
and dancing moves to ensure you'll be ready to 'take it off' by
the time you get home that night. Seats are extremely limited,
